Music

One of my all-time favorite video games apparently had a horrible commercial.

So, why does the knowledgeable kid have to be so nerdy?

Can you spot the child star?

Here is what would happen if a war broke out between LP covers.
Battle of the Album Covers

I just wish the Beastie Boys had put up more of a fight.

In 1973 Pink Floyd released Dark Side of the Moon.  Considered by some to be the bands greatest album, it lives today as a classic example of modern jazz, and as one of the highest selling albums of all time.  So somewhere along the line someone decided that it would be fun to play the album while watching The Wizard of Oz.  I’d long heard the tale of the strange connection between these two pieces for years, but I’d never bothered to set it all up…now it seems that I don’t have to.  Check out The Dark Side of the Rainbow at www.sugarjar.com.

Also, read more about the album here.

A friend of mine sent a clip to me from a sketch on the Dave Chapelle show.  I laughed out loud the entire way through…not just because it’s funny, but because it’s probably word for word true.  Living in Minnesota, you hear a lot about the comings and goings of Prince…and lets face it, I’ve heard some pretty wierd things from some pretty reliable sources.

Anyway, this Charlie Murphy’s True Hollywood account of hanging out with Prince in the 80’s.

“This bores me.  Is anyone up for a game of basketball?”

Charlie Murphy THS: Prince

This isn’t the band from the RockStar: Season 2, this is the real deal!

According to wikipedia, the band has been playing since 1989 in Mesa California. I’m not that familiar with the group, but from watching their video, I think I probably should be. Kind of reminds me of some of the Beasty Boys videos with a little more edge.

Also, as a cultural note, these are the guys that wrote and performed the song Chewbacca for the Clerks soundtrack.

Check out the song “Math” by Supernova at the link below!

This video changed my life.  After watching this for the first and only time, I destroyed every pirated copy of the Cats soundtrack in my collection.  But seriously, music is so cheap these days its difficult to justify illegal downloads.

I always thought that the whining and bitching of Lars Ulrich was a bit much; people that have made millions of dollars from their fan base and who don’t even require CD sales to do so just shouldn’t complain.  I wonder how many T-shirts he sold last year?  How many gigs he got paid to play?  Or how many corporate sponsored events he’s shown up at just to yell a couple things at the crowd, get paid, and leave?  Anyway, the people that need the money are the musicians, singers, and songwriters who can’t cash in on their celebrity status and are just scraping by.  The record labels will find ways to make money regardless,  but it’s the small time artists that can take the chances and spur innovation in the music industry; they deserve to be paid for doing so.

And while you’re thinking about that, check out Wierd Al’s video, Don’t Download this Video.

We all knew Wierd Al was wierd, but this takes the cake; a song made up completely from palindromes…that is, according to dictionary.com: A word, phrase, verse, or sentence that reads the same backward or forward. For example: A man, a plan, a canal, Panama!

Check it out here. It’s very fun.

Der Bonker ist fantastich…and I’d write the rest of this article in german too if I could only find my highschool textbook.  Though thinking back, I may have turned that back in to the school.  Anyway, that’s how much I enjoyed Der Bonker as animated by Walter Moers.  It’s a very cool music video about the greatest villian of all time and his final days in an underground bunker.  You really don’t need to know german to understand the absurdity of it all, but here’s the translation if you really want to know.

I always loved the song Mad World. It’s sappy, sentimental and very very depressing…but it’s hauntingly beautiful at the same time.

Check out the video here. Very cool.
